Ukrainian War Propaganda Hunters: Villanizing Critics of the Eastern European Conflict

Polish publicist Sroczyński criticizes the rush to label any dissenting voice on the Ukrainian conflict as Russian trolls, accusing Poland’s major parties of extremist tactics that echo Kremlin disinformation narratives.

Precipitation of Misinformation Labels

The hunt for ‘Russian trolls’ has turned into a frenzy against anyone with non-mainstream views on the war in Ukraine. Polsat’s Lukasz Warzecha has been labeled a “Russian agent” for suggesting Ukraine might drag NATO into the conflict.

Polish Political Polarization

Both the PO and PiS parties are engaging in textbook FSB tactics, demonizing opposing viewpoints and deepening societal divisions. Premier Donald Tusk warns against Russian propaganda but has engaged in similar divisive rhetoric in the past, while PiS has accused the PO of being controlled by external forces.

Debating the Validity of Allegations

Sroczyński argues that while Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen international relations may prove provocative to Russia, dismissing these concerns as merely “Russophile” does a disservice to legitimate debate. Both sides engage in extreme demonization of political opponents, echoing Russian talking points.

The Impact of Partisan Warfare

The ruling parties have exacerbated divisions to the point of completely undermining productive political conflict. Instead of engaging in constructive debate, both PO and PiS resort to spreading fabricated narratives and extreme accusations.
