Russian Drone Intrudes into Romanian Airspace, Alert Triggered

Incident Details

Russian drone violated Romanian airspace on Saturday afternoon, prompting Romanian defense authorities to initiate measures. At 6:05 PM on September 13th, two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti were deployed to monitor the airspace along the Ukraine border after a reported Russian aerial attack on Ukrainian infrastructure over the Danube.

Romanian Response

Romanian Defense Ministry reported that at 6:23 PM, the F-16 jets detected the drone in Romanian airspace and tracked it until it disappeared from radar approximately 20 km southwest of Chilia Veche. Approximately seven minutes after the initial alert, a warning notice was sent to residents in northern parts of Tulcea County.
