Russian Iskander missiles near Polish border: Gen. Polko calls them “scare tactics”

Satellite images from last weekend show Russian Iskander-M nuclear-capable missiles stationed near Poland’s Suwałki region, according to leaked footage from the Zapad 2025 military drills.

General Roman Polko, former commander of GROM special forces and former vice chief of the Polish Armed Forces, spoke to Gazeta.pl about the developments, saying, “We’ve seen this before in this part of Russia. They are always used as scare tactics.”

Russian military drills provoke NATO response

The Belarus-Russia war games come during a period of heightened tensions, with Poland closing its border with Belarus due to safety concerns. NATO has responded by initiating Operation Eastern Sentry.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the activation of Eastern Sentry alongside the Russian-Belarusian military exercises. The operation will integrate air and ground defenses across several NATO member states to counter potential Russian aggression.
