Chinese Warnings
China has warned the US and UK of destabilizing actions in the Taiwan Strait that could undermine peace and stability, following weekend transits through the disputed international waterway.
Routine Naval Exercises
The UK Ministry of Defense emphasized that the transit was routine, and the Royal Navy operates “in full compliance with international law and exercises the right to freedom of navigation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.”
Tensions Rising
The Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the UN stated that any US or allied vessels passing through the Taiwan Strait are violating international norms and prompting regional instability.
