Fires Erupt at One of Russia’s Largest Oil Refineries After Ukrainian UAV Attack

Late-night Ukrainian UAV attack triggered fires at Russia’s Kinef refinery, one of the country’s largest oil processing facilities.

Ukrainian Attack

The attack occurred early Sunday morning when Ukrainian UAVs entered Russian airspace. Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko confirmed that three drones were shot down in the Kirishi region before they could cause greater damage.

Destructive Potential

Located in Kirishi, Kinef refinery has the capacity to process over 20 million tons of crude oil annually, making it the second-largest refinery in Russia outside of Omsk. The facility directly supplies fuel to key regions, including St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast.

Firefighting Efforts

Initially sparked by a drone hull fragment, the fire was eventually extinguished without fatalities, despite its large-scale impact on refinery operations. Satellite monitoring from NASA FIRMS corroborates the extent of the damage, and investigations continue into the full scope of destruction.
