The U.S., South Korea, and Japan are conducting joint military exercises near the Korean peninsula, sparking tensions with North Korea amidst Russia’s Zapad 2025 war games.
Freedom Edge 2025 Military Exercises
The United States, South Korea, and Japan are set to begin a joint military exercise called Freedom Edge 2025, which will take place on the waters to the south-east of the South Korean island of Jeju. This exercise will run from Monday 15th September to Friday 19th September.
Additional Features of the Exercises
In addition to further developing anti-missile defense capabilities, this year’s exercises will highlight the abilities of the US Marine Corps aviation and air forces as well as expanded air defense training, medical evacuation training and maritime interception operations.
Iron Mace Drills
South Korean news agency Yonhap also reported unofficially in recent days that the United States and South Korea plan to conduct additional exercises called “Iron Mace” in the same period, which are to take place at the U.S. military headquarters in Korea, Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, approximately 60 kilometers south of Seoul.
