A savanna serval was spotted in Lower Silesia; foresters are urging caution.
Serval Sightings
A serval, a territorial exotic predator known for its remarkable jumping abilities, was seen in the Wilków forest near Głogów on September 14th. Officials believe the animal likely escaped from a private breeding facility.
Previous Encounters
The sighting recalls an incident in late July when another serval called “Sasza” escaped its enclosure in Bartąg near Olsztyna, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. After two weeks, Sasza returned on its own, but the incident highlights the risks of exotic pet ownership.
Serval in Poland
In Poland, owning a serval requires no special permits, only a registration with local authorities. These cats, native to Africa, can live up to 15 years and usually cost around 25,000 zł to purchase.
