Germany lays out its position on reparations during Berlin talks with Poland

Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki discussed reparations with German leaders in Berlin, while both sides agreed on continued support for Ukraine and strengthening NATO Eastern Flank security.

Partnership Discussions

During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of close cooperation, particularly in supporting Ukraine, while acknowledging the need to enhance security on the eastern flank of NATO.

Reparations Discussions

The discussions touched on the issue of reparations, with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stating that from Germany’s perspective, the matter has been legally resolved. However, promoting remembrance and memory remains a shared goal.

Cold Welcome

The Polish President was greeted in Berlin with military music, playing both countries’ national anthems. Following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders held closed-door discussions focused primarily on reparations and mutual assurances.

Anticipated Efforts

The visit to Berlin outlined significant agreement on security concerns, including the need for additional support to Ukraine in the ongoing War in Ukraine and the random drone incidents over Poland.
