Trump Sues New York Times for $250 Billion Over Defamation

Former US president Donald Trump announced that he will sue the New York Times for $250 billion, accusing the newspaper of defamation and spreading lies about him.

Having previously sued the New York Times in 2021 over alleged involvement in a conspiracy to obtain financial information from his tax returns, Trump is now pursuing another legal action regarding articles about his ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The suit comes after Trump posted on Truth Social that “The New York Times has been lying, slandering, and defaming me for a long time, but now it will all end.”

Amount In Dispute

Trump’s new lawsuit requests a massive $250 billion in damages from the American newspaper, claiming that the publication has falsely accused him of associations with the disgraced financier.

In 2021, Trump filed a suit against the Times for allegedly being part of a conspiracy to obtain information about his tax returns, referencing a series of articles concerning Trump’s finances. The court dismissed the lawsuit in 2023.
