Drone Incident at Belweder: No Foreign Spy Activity Found

Polish authorities have found no evidence that a drone flown over the President’s residence and government buildings was operated on behalf of foreign intelligence services.

Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has concluded that a Belarusian woman and a Ukrainian man detained for flying a drone over the Belweder palace and government buildings in Warsaw were not acting on behalf of foreign intelligence services. The incident occurred on September 15, and the drone was quickly intercepted by Special Operations Police (SOP) officers.

The Ukrainian man, who was operating the drone, is set to face charges of violating aviation regulations for flying in a restricted zone, which carries a potential penalty of up to 5 years in prison. He may opt for a voluntary submission to punishment. The Belarusian woman, who had no direct involvement in the incident, is likely to be questioned only as a witness.

The drone incident led to a swift response from authorities, with the ABW taking over the investigation to determine if there were any espionage elements involved. After analyzing the contents of the detained individuals’ phones, no evidence was found to suggest they were working for foreign intelligence services. The incident has highlighted the importance of adhering to aviation regulations and respecting restricted airspace.
