Polish Senate Backs Mariusz Haładyj for Supreme Audit Office Head

The Polish Senate has voted to approve Mariusz Haładyj as the new head of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), with 83 senators in favor and only one against.

The Polish Senate on Wednesday voted to approve the candidacy of Mariusz Haładyj as the new head of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK). Haładyj, the current head of the General Prosecutor’s Office, received 83 votes in favor, with one senator voting against and none abstaining.

Challenges Ahead

During his appearance in the Sejm, Haładyj outlined the challenges facing the new head of the Supreme Audit Office, including detecting serious abuses and improving the functioning of public institutions to benefit citizens.

Support from Premier Tusk

Premier Donald Tusk expressed his support for Haładyj’s candidacy, emphasizing the importance of neutrality and high competence in the role. Tusk stated that he is “absolutely convinced” that Haładyj is the right candidate for the position.

Background

The term of Marian Banaś as head of the NIK expired on August 30, and Haładyj was nominated as one of the candidates for the position. The Sejm had previously approved his candidacy on Friday.
