Pope Expresses Concern Over Drone Attacks on Poland

On September 16, Pope Leo XIV voiced his concerns about the recent drone attacks on Poland, amid escalating tensions between NATO and Russia.

Pope’s Statement

During a brief conversation with journalists on September 16, Pope Leo XIV addressed the recent drone attacks on Poland, stating that he is “certainly concerned” about the situation. The Pope emphasized that NATO has not initiated a war with Russia, but acknowledged that Poles are worried due to the violation of their airspace.

NATO-Russia Tensions

Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that NATO is “de facto at war with Russia,” a statement reiterated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who noted that while NATO is not a party to the war with Russia, Russian actions are expanding beyond Ukraine’s territory.

Drone Attacks on Poland

On the night of September 9-10, Russian drones entered Polish airspace, with most being decoy drones that caused no damage. However, in Wyryki, Lublin province, an unidentified object destroyed the roof of a private home. Debris from 17 drones has been found, and it is reported that fragments of a Polish F-16-launched missile may have hit the house.
