Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński reported increased drone activity from Belarus and Russia attempting to cross into Polish airspace, prompting concerns over border security.
Recent Drone Incidents
Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced on Thursday, September 18, that the border with Belarus will remain closed due to heightened drone activity from Belarus and Russia attempting to enter Polish airspace.
Border Closure and Security Concerns
The Polish-Belarusian border was closed on September 11-12 following Belarus-Russia maneuvers, Zapad-2025, which concluded on September 16. However, the restriction remains in place due to ongoing security concerns.
Kierwiński emphasized that the closure is not solely tied to the exercises but is a response to the overall escalation, stating, “If we receive information from services that the situation is becoming safe, then we will open this border.”
Premiers’ Statements on Border Security
Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously addressed the closure, citing an increase in provocations from Russia and Belarus, including the detention of a Polish citizen by Belarusian services.
