Latvian Coast Finds Drone Debris, Premier Seeks Polish Connection

Latvian military finds drone wreckage on a Baltic beach, sparking an investigation and a request to Poland for possible connections.

Drone Discovery

On September 18, Latvian military reported finding fragments of a drone on a beach in the Varve municipality, Windawa region. The Latvian army’s bomb disposal team was dispatched to investigate the object.

The debris, which includes a tail section with Russian letters and numbers, likely belongs to a Russian “Gerbera” drone.

Premier’s Request

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina instructed her defense and interior ministers to contact their Polish counterparts to check if the drone matches one found in Poland the previous week.

The premier also confirmed that no explosives were found in the wreckage.

Flight Restrictions

Latvia extended flight restrictions in the eastern part of the country, citing security concerns. The nighttime ban on low-altitude flights will be in effect for three weeks, until October 8.

The restrictions aim to allow Latvian forces to maintain full control over the airspace and mitigate potential drone threats.
