U-turn at Pilecki Institute: Madaj Reinstates Fired Employees

The Pilecki Institute in Berlin has reinstated two fired employees, Hanna Radziejowska and Mateusz Fałkowski, following a change in leadership.

The Pilecki Institute announced on Thursday, September 18, that Hanna Radziejowska and Mateusz Fałkowski have been reinstated to their positions at the Berlin branch of the institute, based on an agreement reached with the Institute.

Radziejowska will take on the role of the director’s plenipotentiary for Polish-German dialogue, while Fałkowski will return as the deputy head. The acting director, Karol Madaj, praised their achievements, professionalism, and commitment.

Madaj also announced a competition for the position of head of the Berlin branch, with Joanna Kiliszek serving as the acting head until the competition is resolved.

Details on Radziejowska’s Dismissal

Hanna Radziejowska was previously fired by Krzysztof Ruchniewicza, the former director of the Pilecki Institute. She had expressed concerns about some of the director’s actions, which she believed were harmful, and informed the Ministry of Culture.

Change in Institute Leadership

In late August, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Marta Cienkowska dismissed Krzysztof Ruchniewicz as director, citing unfulfilled duties, including flawed program planning, communication policy, and management decisions.

Cienkowska also clarified that Radziejowska was never officially recognized as a whistleblower by the Ministry of Culture.
