Polish police have apprehended a 15-year-old boy who recklessly rode an electric scooter at 90 km/h, endangering himself, a passenger, and other road users in Koszalin.
Reckless Ride
On the evening of September 18, at the intersection of Piłsudskiego, Zwycięstwa, and Jedności streets, police from the Koszalin Road Traffic Department observed a teenager riding an electric scooter while carrying a passenger along a pedestrian crossing.
The teenager ignored police signals and accelerated, attempting to escape. During the wild maneuver, he rode directly under the feet of a group of pedestrians, who had to jump off the sidewalk to avoid being hit.
Consequences and Charges
The scooter, capable of reaching 90 km/h, was found to be driven by a 15-year-old boy from Koszalin, who was accompanied by a peer. Neither had the required permits. The teenager committed multiple infractions, and the case will now be handled by a family court.
Although the teenager does not face criminal charges like an adult, the family court can impose educational measures.
Safety Concerns and Appeals
The police stress that electric scooters are not toys, especially those that can reach speeds comparable to motorcycles. They urge parents to monitor how and what their children use for transportation.
The police also remind users that electric scooters have specific regulations: they can only ride on designated roads, and their speed should not exceed 20 km/h.
