Air India Plane Crash: Families of Victims Sue Boeing and Honeywell

Families of four victims of the Air India plane crash have sued Boeing and Honeywell, alleging that the companies were aware of the risks but took no action.

Details of the Lawsuit

The families of four victims of the Air India plane crash have filed a lawsuit against Boeing and Honeywell, the manufacturers of the plane and its parts. The lawsuit claims that the companies were aware of the risks associated with the plane’s fuel switches but failed to take any action to mitigate them.

The families allege that the companies “sat idly by” and issued a weak warning that only recommended checking the switches. They claim that the airlines were not notified and no replacement parts were provided.

Investigation into the Crash

According to a report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), just three seconds after takeoff, the plane’s fuel switches moved to the “off” position, causing a total loss of power. The switches then returned to their normal position, restarting the engines, but one of them failed to do so.

However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had a different assessment, stating that the switches were safe.

The Crash

The Air India plane crash occurred on June 12, and it was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members from Ahmedabad to London. Out of the 242 people on board, 241 were confirmed dead, and one survivor, a British citizen of Indian origin, is being treated in a hospital.

The passengers included 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian citizen.
