Polish Man Arrested at Dublin Airport Over Fatal Cycling Accident

A 42-year-old Polish man, Piotr B., was arrested at Dublin Airport on September 17 after allegedly hitting and killing an 80-year-old cyclist in Ireland on September 12.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred on the R156 road in Batterstown (Ballivor) at around 10:00 AM on September 12. Piotr B. allegedly drove into the cyclist and then fled the scene without providing assistance. The cyclist lost consciousness and later died at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

Charges and Investigation

Piotr B. was tracked down to Poland but voluntarily returned to Ireland. He was arrested at Dublin Airport and appeared in the District Court in Trim, where he faced three charges: leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report the accident, and not providing assistance to the injured party.

Court Proceedings and Bail

The court decided to temporarily detain Piotr B. but allowed for his release on bail. According to his representative, the family may post a €10,000 bond. If released, Piotr B. will be required to report to the Trim police station once a month. The next hearing is scheduled for September 23.
