Polish Police Officer Charged with Illicitly Checking Personal Data

A Polish police officer, Kinga B., has been charged with unlawfully checking the personal data of a Tarnobrzeg resident in police systems, sparking a scandal.

Prosecutors in Tarnobrzeg have formally charged Kinga B., a district officer with the Tarnobrzeg Municipal Police Command, with multiple unauthorized checks of a Tarnobrzeg resident’s data in police systems.

Kinga B. has denied the charge and exercised her right to refuse making a statement, according to Andrzej Dubiel, spokesperson for the Tarnobrzeg District Prosecutor’s Office.

Circumstances of the Discovery

According to unofficial reports from the daily “Echo Dnia,” Kinga B. was found in the apartment of a pseudo-fan of the Siarka Tarnobrzeg football club, whose data she allegedly checked using police systems.

The officer has been suspended from duty, and the municipal police commander in Tarnobrzeg has requested her dismissal from the police force.

Initial Reports and Reaction

Entrepreneur and videoblogger Zbigniew Stonoga was the first to break the story, posting on Facebook that Kinga B. was discovered hiding under a blanket in the suspect’s bed during a search of the apartment.

Stonoga also mentioned unconfirmed allegations that Kinga B. had been providing information about planned police actions to hooligans.
