Lithuania’s Defense Minister, Dovile Sakaliene, commented on the incident involving three Russian fighter jets that violated Estonia’s airspace on September 19.

In a post on X, Sakaliene emphasized that NATO’s northeastern border is being tested “not without reason” and that “we must act seriously” in response to Russian provocations.

Turkey’s Example Cited

Sakaliene referenced Turkey’s actions in 2015, when it shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber near the Turkish-Syrian border.

Turkey claimed the aircraft had violated its airspace, while Russia disputed the allegations.

Incident Details

Estonian authorities reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered the country’s airspace, prompting a response from NATO.

The jets were intercepted by Swedish Air Force planes, while Russia claimed the flight was a planned exercise from Karelia to a Kaliningrad airfield.
