Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s comments on potential nuclear cooperation with France have sparked a heated reaction in Russia, with officials warning of escalation and World War III.
Nawrocki’s Interview in France
During a visit to Paris on September 16, Polish President Karol Nawrocki gave an interview to French television station LCI, in which he discussed the possibility of France deploying nuclear weapons in Poland.
Nawrocki also commented on a recent drone attack on Poland by Russia, calling it a “clear signal” from Vladimir Putin and a warning to Europe.
Nawrocki on Nuclear Cooperation
Nawrocki expressed his support for Poland joining NATO’s nuclear sharing program, stating that Poland should have its own atomic capabilities, both for energy and military purposes.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation with France in the nuclear sector, citing a recent treaty signed in Nancy that will soon be ratified.
Russian Reaction
Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the Russian State Duma’s Defense Committee, warned that if nuclear weapons were deployed in Poland, they would become a target for Russian attacks, leading to escalation and potentially even World War III.
Russian politologist Vadim Trukhachev described Nawrocki’s comments as “empty talk,” while Dmitry Rodionov, director of the Institute of Geopolitical Studies, called for increased attention to Poland’s militarization.
