Reckless Drivers Penalized for U-Turns in Expressway Tunnel

Two drivers, one Ukrainian and one Polish, were fined 2,000 zloty each and given 12 penalty points for making unauthorized U-turns in an expressway tunnel in southwestern Poland on September 16.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on the S3 expressway, which connects Bolków to Kamienna Góra, on September 16 before noon. A 42-year-old Ukrainian driver in a Seat and a 46-year-old Polish woman driving a Porsche made U-turns in the tunnel, triggering the tunnel’s safety system and causing a 40-minute closure.

Consequences and Charges

The drivers were issued fines of 2,000 zloty each and received 12 penalty points for their reckless behavior. The police emphasized that driving against the traffic flow on expressways is a serious offense that endangers not only the drivers but also other road users.

Police Warning and Road Safety

The police reminded drivers that reversing or making U-turns on highways and expressways is strictly prohibited. If a driver mistakenly enters an expressway or highway in the wrong direction, they should stop in a safe location, turn on hazard lights, and contact road services or the police for assistance.
