Unseasonable Warmth Hits Poland, IMGW Issues Heat Alerts

Poland is set to experience a sudden and significant rise in temperatures over the weekend, with the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issuing first-degree heat alerts for several regions.

Weekend Weather Forecast

On Saturday, a surge of warm African air will bring temperatures soaring to 24°C in the north and 29°C in the south of the country. Overnight temperatures will remain relatively high, reaching up to 19°C.

The warm weather is expected to persist into Sunday, with temperatures ranging from 24°C in the northeast to 30°C in the west and south of Poland.

IMGW Heat Alerts

The IMGW has issued first-degree heat alerts for several regions, including Lower Silesia (excluding mountainous areas), Opole, Silesia (excluding certain counties), Lubusz (southern counties), Lesser Poland (excluding southern and northern parts), and Greater Poland (southern counties). The alerts are in effect from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on September 20.

The IMGW warned that temperatures may reach 28-30°C in the affected areas, with the possibility of the alert being extended by one day.

Weather Outlook for the Upcoming Week

From September 23, a significant change in weather is expected, with the beginning of the week still bringing sunshine and high temperatures, but a noticeable drop in temperature and a shift in weather patterns expected from Tuesday.

The second half of the week will see a marked decrease in temperature, with colder and more autumnal weather expected, with temperatures potentially dropping to 14-16°C in the coldest areas.
