Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the recognition of Palestine as a state by several countries, warning of an “absurd reward for terrorism.”
Netanyahu’s Response
Benjamin Netanyahu stated during a weekly government meeting that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state would threaten Israel’s interests and constitute an “absurd reward for Hamas’s terrorism.”
He announced that Israel would react in the coming days to the recognition of Palestine by more countries, vowing to combat what he termed “false propaganda” and appeals for a Palestinian state, which he believes endanger Israel’s existence.
International Recognition
Several countries, including the UK, Canada, and Australia, have recognized Palestine as a state. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada acknowledges the Palestinian state and offers support for a peaceful future for Palestine and Israel.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong declared their support for establishing a Palestinian state, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted that recognizing Palestine is a way to preserve hope for peace, stressing that the only viable future is a two-state solution, with the release of Israeli hostages and no role for Hamas in the region.
