A recent survey conducted by SW Research for Rp.pl shows that while most Poles believe NATO allies would help in case of an attack, a significant minority expresses doubts.
Survey Results
The survey found that 57% of respondents believe in NATO allies’ help in case of an attack on Poland, while 25.8% do not. 17.1% of participants had no opinion.
The survey also revealed that people aged 24 and under (66.7%), those over 50 (60.1%), and those between 25-34 years old (58%) are most confident in NATO’s support. In contrast, individuals aged 35-49 are the least convinced, with only 48.1% believing in ally support.
NATO’s Stance
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte emphasized on September 10 that allies are committed to defending every inch of their territory. He stated that NATO will continue to actively manage its deterrent and defensive posture along the eastern flank.
Rutte also mentioned that NATO will closely monitor the situation on its eastern flank and that its air defense is always on standby.
NATO Treaty
NATO currently consists of 32 member countries. According to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, an armed attack on one or more member states in Europe or North America will be considered an attack on all member states.
In the event of such an attack, each member state has agreed to assist the attacked party or parties, taking individual and collective action as necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain security in the North Atlantic area.
