The death of Slawomir Nocuń, a volunteer firefighter from Michałowo, has sent shockwaves through the firefighting community across Poland. The State Fire Service (PSP) confirmed that Nocuń died from injuries sustained during a rescue operation on September 11.
Circumstances of the Rescue Operation
The incident occurred during an intervention at a nest of wasps, during which Nocuń was stung and hospitalized. According to reports, he lost consciousness after the operation and was hospitalized. The injuries were a direct result of the stings.
Tributes and Funeral Arrangements
The Polish Firefighters’ Union and the Main Headquarters of the State Fire Service expressed condolences to Nocuń’s family and fellow firefighters from Michałowo. On September 22, at 6:00 PM, PSP units will pay tribute to Nocuń with light and sound signals. Numerous volunteer fire units will also join in the commemoration.
Official Response
The Kielce Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service announced that the entire firefighting community is in mourning, and the Świętokrzyski Provincial Commander of the PSP expressed condolences to Nocuń’s family and loved ones.
