Drunk Driver Crashes into Viaduct Pillar, Hits Tree

A drunk 27-year-old driver crashed his Mercedes into a viaduct pillar and then into a tree on Miedzeszyński Embankment in Warsaw, Poland, early in the morning.

Incident Details

The accident occurred at 00:33 on Miedzeszyński Embankment, before the Łazienkowski Bridge. Witnesses reported that the car was traveling at high speed, hit a viaduct pillar, bounced off, knocked down a road sign, and finally came to rest against a tree.

Driver and Passenger

The vehicle carried two Polish men, both under the influence of alcohol. Initially, they claimed a third person was driving and had fled the scene. However, police quickly uncovered that the driver was the 27-year-old man, who had nearly 2 promiles of alcohol in his breath. He was arrested.

The 36-year-old passenger suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

The emergency services, including two fire brigade units, a medical rescue team, and several police patrols, were called to the scene. The exit from the Łazienkowski Bridge and one lane of Miedzeszyński Embankment towards Praga-Północ were blocked during the operation.
