EU Parliament Committee Decides on Dworczyk and Obajtek’s Immunity

The European Parliament’s legal committee has made a decision regarding the immunity of Michał Dworczyk and Daniel Obajtek, two Polish politicians facing allegations.

Background and Allegations

The European Parliament’s legal committee has decided on the immunity cases of Michał Dworczyk and Daniel Obajtek. Dworczyk’s case, related to the “mail affair” and allegations of neglecting duties and hindering proceedings, was submitted to the Parliament in September last year.

Obajtek’s case, concerning alleged surveillance of Civic Platform politicians ordered by Orlen during his tenure as company president, was submitted in January this year.

Dworczyk’s Stance

Michał Dworczyk stated that he believes former Justice Minister Adam Bodnar’s request to waive his immunity was politically motivated. Dworczyk expressed his conviction that he is the most interested party in finding the hackers who accessed his and several other Polish politicians’ email accounts.

Obajtek’s Reaction

Daniel Obajtek called the proceedings against him “a joke.” He argued that the issue could have been handled through a civil lawsuit in court, as it did not involve a criminal offense or material benefits.

Obajtek saw the move as a political show aimed at stripping him of his immunity.
