French President Emmanuel Macron was delayed on his way to the French embassy in New York City when his motorcade was stopped due to security measures in place for US President Donald Trump’s convoy. Macron was heard on a recording saying, “I’m waiting on the street because everything is closed.”
Macron’s Phone Call to Trump
Macron called Trump to inform him of the situation, saying, “Hi, how are you? Guess what happened. I’m waiting on the street because everything is closed.”
France Recognizes Palestine
Earlier, Macron announced that France recognizes Palestine as a state, saying it was time to free 48 hostages held by Hamas and end the war and bombings in the Gaza Strip.
Macron stated that recognizing Palestine was a defeat for Hamas and those who incite anti-Semitic hatred and anti-Zionist obsessions.
Palestine’s Response
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed France’s recognition of Palestine, calling it a “historic and courageous” decision that supports efforts towards peace and the implementation of a two-state solution.
