New Educational Path Unveiled at Palace of Culture and Science

A new educational trail, consisting of ten glass panels, has been installed around the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, Poland, to commemorate its 70th anniversary.

Trail Overview and Architecture

The new educational path around the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN) features ten glass panels, presenting archival photographs and brief descriptions related to the palace’s architecture and Warsaw’s history.

Exhibition Content

The first part of the exhibition focuses on four lesser-known architectural details of PKiN: a figure of a young man with a book, referencing the works of communist classics; a stone inscription “Palace of Culture and Science named after Joseph Stalin”; a relief with a workers’ parade above the main entrance; and traces of the Polish coat of arms without a crown from the former honorary tribune on Defilad Square.

The panels combine close-ups of details with archival photos and explanatory text.

Janusz Korczak and Wartime History

Six additional panels, set up on the side of Świętokrzyski Park, are dedicated to Janusz Korczak and the wartime fate of the Dom Sierot (Orphanage). They recall, among other things, the “small ghetto” wall at Sienna Street, addresses at Śliska Street, and the route of the orphans to Umschlagplatz.

WWII and Daily Life

Three panels document daily life and destruction during the Warsaw Uprising.

Logistics and Design

The path is a permanent, outdoor exhibition, freely accessible and free of charge, with no tickets or reservations needed.

The exhibition features black and white photographs printed on transparent glass panels.

The glass panels are made of self-cleaning Pilkington Activ™ glass, with a special coating that reacts to light, making it easier to maintain the exhibition in an outdoor environment without interfering with the surroundings.
