US President Donald Trump’s address to the 80th UN General Assembly session was disrupted by technical issues, prompting him to criticize the organization.
Technical Glitches and Trump’s Response
During his speech at the 80th UN General Assembly session, Donald Trump faced technical issues with his prompter, which he noticed was not working. He humorously remarked that the person operating the prompter was having serious problems.
Despite the glitch, Trump chose to proceed with his speech, stating he had no issue with delivering it without the prompter and could speak “more from the heart.” For most of his speech, he read from printed notes.
Criticism of the UN
Trump did not hesitate to express his criticism of the United Nations during his speech. He mentioned that he had personally ended seven wars and “no one ever called from the UN to offer help.” He recalled receiving “a broken escalator and a malfunctioning prompter” from the organization, referencing an earlier incident where the escalator he and the First Lady used got stuck.
Questioning the Purpose of the UN
Trump questioned the effectiveness and purpose of the UN, stating he had realized that the organization “simply doesn’t work.” He expressed disappointment that despite its vast potential, the UN does not utilize it effectively.
“To be honest, what’s the point of the UN? It has such enormous potential, but it doesn’t even come close to achieving it,” Trump said. He criticized the UN for often doing nothing more than writing strongly worded letters that are never published, calling them “empty words” that do not resolve conflicts.
