Two European airports, in Copenhagen and Oslo, were unexpectedly closed due to drone sightings in their vicinity, causing flight disruptions and investigations.
Drones Near Copenhagen Airport
Copenhagen Airport, which is now open, had its operations suspended on Monday evening after several large, unidentified drones were spotted in the area. Authorities reported that two or three drones were seen, but their origin, including a possible Russian connection, remains unclear.
The police have launched an intensive investigation into the incident, which led to about 35 flights being redirected to other airports. Passengers are advised to follow current updates from the airport.
Oslo Airport Also Closed
Almost simultaneously, Oslo Airport was also closed due to drone sightings in its vicinity. All flights were redirected to the nearest airport, but the airport has since resumed operations.
The Danish and Norwegian authorities are cooperating to determine if there is a connection between the two incidents.
Recent Cyberattacks on European Airports
Last week, Brussels International Airport experienced a cyberattack that paralyzed its electronic systems for check-in and boarding. Similar disruptions were reported at airports in Berlin, London, and Dublin.
The European Union’s cybersecurity agency, ENISA, confirmed that the disruptions at European airports were caused by a cyberattack, with the investigation involving law enforcement.
