A 90-year-old man in Warsaw was caught using a forged disability parking card, which he obtained at the urging of a family member.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on September 19 in Warsaw’s Old Town, near the Royal Castle. A resident noticed a car parked in a disabled parking spot with a suspicious card in the windshield.
When questioned by municipal guards, the driver, a nearly 90-year-old man, produced the card, which upon closer inspection, was found to be a cleverly made photocopy with a hologram cut from a previous valid document.
Confession and Charges
The elderly man admitted that he was persuaded by a family member to use the forged card to avoid visiting the disability commission to update his card.
This led to the police being called, who took over the case of document forgery. The man will have to appear at the police station and make a statement.
Legal Consequences
Using a parking spot for disabled individuals without authorization carries a fine of 800 zł and 6 penalty points.
Possessing a false document is a crime punishable by imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.
