Claudia Cardinale’s agent, Laurent Savry, announced her death to AFP on Tuesday, September 23, at her home in Nemours, France. In her final moments, she was accompanied by her children.

Laurent Savry remembered Cardinale as a woman who left behind a legacy of freedom and inspiration, both as a woman and as an artist.

Early Life and Career

Claudia Cardinale was born on April 15, 1938, in La Goulette, near Tunis, Tunisia, to a Sicilian family. At the time of her birth, the city was under French protection.

Cardinale’s career began at 16 when she was selected for a beauty contest. She won, earning the title “Most Beautiful Italian Woman in Tunisia” and a prize that included a trip to the Venice Film Festival.

The Start of Her Film Career

Despite initial reservations, Cardinale was persuaded by her father to pursue a film career. Many directors and producers wanted her to make movies, but she initially declined, saying, “No, I don’t want to!”
