Drunken Finnish Men Breach Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum Site

Two Finnish men, over two times the legal alcohol limit, broke into the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Poland on September 22.

Incident and Arrest

On Monday, September 22, after 7 PM, police were called to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Brzezinka by the museum’s guards, who had apprehended two drunk Finnish men. The men, aged 33, had attempted to enter the museum after being denied access due to its closure. They climbed over a fence and were quickly caught by the guards and handed over to the police.

Alcohol Levels and Charges

The breathalyzer test revealed that both men had over two promiles of alcohol in their system. Based on the collected evidence, charges of unlawful trespassing on the former German Nazi concentration camp in Birkenau were brought against them. The penalty for this offense can range from a fine, restriction of freedom, or imprisonment of up to a year.

Both suspects admitted to the charges and voluntarily submitted to punishment. The prosecutor of the Oświęcim District Prosecutor’s Office imposed a fine of 1500 Polish zloty on each.
