The father of Sebastian M., Jarosław M., may lose his insurance claim for a BMW Alpina B7 worth around 1 million zloty after an accident on the A1 highway.
Background of the Accident and Insurance Claim
The accident occurred in September 2023 near Piotrków Trybunalski, involving Sebastian M., who is accused of causing the crash that killed a couple and their five-year-old son.
Sebastian M. fled to the United Arab Emirates and was subject to a red Interpol notice; he was extradited back to Poland in May after a court ruling.
Details of the Vehicle and Modifications
The BMW Alpina B7, owned by Jarosław M., was modified on Sebastian M.’s instruction to increase its power and remove the factory speed limiter, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.
The vehicle also had a permanently installed anti-radar device that interfered with speed measurements used by law enforcement during road checks.
Insurance Claim and Prosecutor’s Findings
The insurance company, citing investigations by the Katowice District Prosecutor’s Office, denied Jarosław M.’s claim for damages, arguing that the vehicle’s modifications voided its factory homologation.
Prosecutors found that Sebastian M. had made the modifications, which was a key factor in the insurer’s decision to reject the claim.
