Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov comments on Polish presence in Suzdal, historical grievances, and US President Donald Trump’s recent statements about Russia.
Peskov’s Remarks on Polish Presence in Suzdal
During an interview with Russian station RBC, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov discussed his visit to Suzdal in the Vladimir region. Peskov referenced historical events from the 17th century when Polish soldiers were present in the region during a war with Tsarist Russia.
Peskov stated, “I didn’t know that Poles occupied Suzdal for several years. From there, they murdered women and children in our villages and attacked Moscow.”
Historical Grievances and Current Relations
Peskov emphasized that past events should not negatively impact contemporary relations between the Polish and Russian nations. However, he noted, “That doesn’t mean we should feel some historical hatred towards Poles. Although we have every reason to feel hostility towards the Polish authorities.”
Reaction to Donald Trump’s Statements
Peskov also commented on US President Donald Trump’s recent statements about Russia, made during a session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump said he supports shooting down Russian fighter jets that violate NATO airspace and described Russia as a “paper tiger” with a struggling economy.
Peskov responded, “As far as we understand, President Trump’s statements were made after a conversation with Zelensky and apparently under the influence of the vision that Zelensky outlined. This vision is the absolute opposite of our understanding of the current state of affairs.”
