Nighttime Chase Ends with Arrest of 31-Year-Old Driver

A 31-year-old Polish man was arrested after a nighttime chase in the city center, where he crashed into a concrete planter and fled on foot.

Details of the Chase

On Wednesday, September 24, at around 2:40 a.m., police attempted to stop a driver of an Opel on Karmelicka Street. The driver ignored the signals and fled through the city streets, eventually crashing into a concrete planter at Alei Solidarności 82.

The crash caused damage to the police car, which was hit by fragments of the planter. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.

Search and Arrest

Police suspected the driver was hiding in the area of the intersection of Alei Jana Pawła II and Alei Solidarności. Firefighters were called to the scene to assist in the search, illuminating and checking nearby ledges and low roofs.

The search lasted several dozen minutes and took place in the immediate vicinity of residential buildings, causing concern among residents.

Charges and Investigation

The arrested driver, a 31-year-old Polish citizen, had approximately 0.5‰ alcohol in his breath and a valid ban on driving. He will face charges of driving under the influence, violating the driving ban, and failing to stop for a police check.
