Polish readers have donated over 100,000 PLN (approximately $25,000 USD) to support medical efforts in Gaza through a joint fundraiser by Gazeta.pl and Polska Misja Medyczna.
Fundraiser Success and Medical Impact
The fundraiser, co-organized by Gazeta.pl and Polska Misja Medyczna, has collected over 100,000 PLN. This amount will be used to finance teams of foreign medics at Al-Aksa hospital on the outskirts of Gaza City.
The funds will support the work of doctors from Jordan and Arab Peninsula countries who are familiar with the local language and conditions. The collected amount can cover the maintenance of 55 surgeons for a week, 877 life-saving operations, 345 days of generator operation, and over 14,000 medical dressings.
Challenges of Medical Work in Gaza
Medical professionals in Gaza face significant challenges, including a lack of water, fuel for generators, and limited availability of medications and medical equipment. Dr. Jazid al-Adjluni, a Jordanian doctor, described the situation as a “new science” or “war medicine,” where improvisation is necessary due to limited resources.
The situation is further complicated by the large number of displaced persons, with hundreds of thousands having fled Gaza. The Al-Aksa hospital in Dajr al-Balah, which is located several kilometers south of Gaza City, has been preparing for an influx of patients.
Efforts to Support Those in Need
Polska Misja Medyczna is sending doctors directly to the Gaza Strip to provide assistance. The organization is working to provide aid to those affected by the conflict.
