Aalborg Airport in Denmark was shut down and flights diverted after unidentified drones were spotted nearby, though authorities confirmed no threat.
Incident details
Aalborg Airport (Denmark) was closed, and several flights were rerouted due to unidentified drones observed near the facility. Authorities assured that no threat to infrastructure or residents occurred. The situation returned to normal a few hours later. Police have yet to determine if these drones are the same ones that paralyzed Copenhagen’s port earlier this week.
Russia suspected
According to CNN reports, two or three large drones were spotted near Copenhagen Airport on Monday, halting all takeoffs and landings for nearly four hours. Reuters reported that Danish authorities on Tuesday assessed this as the most serious attack on their critical infrastructure, linking it to recent violations allegedly carried out by Russia. Russia’s ambassador dismissed these allegations as “unfounded.”
Three ships in the Baltic Sea
Danish media suggested the drones may have flown in from the Baltic Sea, where three ships were present. One was the Russian freighter Astrol-1, en route from Arkhangelsk to St. Petersburg. Additionally, the “Ekstra Bladet” reported that the Benin-flagged tanker Pushpa, sanctioned for transporting Russian oil, and the Norwegian freighter Oslo Carrier 3, carrying Russian sailors, were also in the area.
