Some Polish workers will enjoy an extended weekend in November due to a government decision on an additional day off.
Who Gets the Extra Day Off?
Poland’s National Independence Day on November 11 falls on a Tuesday this year. The government has also designated November 10 as an additional day off, but not all workers are included. Only members of the civil service corps—employees in civil service positions—will enjoy the long weekend.
How Is the Extra Day Off Determined?
Some employers may designate November 10 as a compensatory day off for November 1, which falls on a Saturday this year. According to Article 130, Paragraph 2 of the Labor Code, “any holiday occurring during the accounting period and falling on a day other than Sunday reduces the work schedule by eight hours.” However, the decision on when to grant the extra day off lies with the employer, who can choose a specific date or allow individual employees to take the day off. Employers must notify workers of this decision in advance.
Statutory Holidays in 2025
In 2025, there will be 14 public holidays in Poland, four of which fall on Saturdays or Sundays. Before the end of this year, Poles can look forward to five more such days.
