Polish People’s Party (PSL) Vice-Marshal Michał Kamiński visited the US twice, reportedly to strengthen ties with Donald Trump’s administration.
Kamiński’s US Visits and Diplomatic Efforts
Michał Kamiński, Vice-Marshal of the Senate, recently traveled to the US twice at PSL’s expense, as reported by “Rzeczpospolita.” His mission aimed to build relations with Donald Trump’s administration, including a meeting with Sebastian Gorka, a former White House counterterrorism director. Kamiński declined to disclose details, stating he acts in Poland’s interest to improve US-Poland relations and prevent a reduction of US troops in Poland.
PSL’s Potential Coalition with PiS
Journalists noted that PSL may be seeking an independent US communication channel, separate from Donald Tusk’s government, which has previously criticized Trump. The White House did not deny PiS MEP Adam Bielan’s claim that Tusk “has little influence” in the US. “Rzeczpospolita” suggests Kamiński is “unofficially playing his own game,” positioning PSL for a future without Tusk’s coalition. A source claimed PSL risks “going down with Tusk’s sinking government” if it doesn’t act. PSL officially denies plans to collaborate with PiS.
KO’s Distrust in Kamiński
Civic Coalition (KO) politicians expressed skepticism after Kamiński’s July meeting with Jarosław Kaczyński and Szymon Hołownia at PiS MEP Adam Bielan’s home. Krzysztof Brejza (KO) stated, “We have full trust in PSL within the coalition. However, regarding Michał Kamiński, senators’ trust has eroded, especially after his late-night meetings with Kaczyński.” Brejza added he doubts Kamiński’s “full loyalty.”
