New details emerge in Mentzen threat case

Sławomir Mentzen, a leader of the Confederation, reported receiving threats from Ukrainians after his visit to Lviv, but no suspects have been identified.

Mentzen reports threats

Sławomir Mentzen stated in May that he received threatening emails and later a recording from Ukrainians after his visit to Lviv. He reported the incidents to authorities, but no perpetrators have been found in nearly three months. Mentzen claimed he received additional threats in the form of a recording featuring five masked men accusing him of not apologizing for offensive remarks about Ukrainian history and heroes.

Police investigation ongoing

The Main Police Command informed Interia.pl in May that the Toruń City Police received three reports of criminal threats against Mentzen on March 4, March 25, and May 14. The statement emphasized that investigative and operational actions are ongoing, with support from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime.

No charges filed yet

The investigation, led by the Toruń City Police and supervised by the Toruń Centrum-Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office, has not resulted in any charges. Prosecutor Rafał Ruta stated that no charges have been filed, and efforts are ongoing to identify the perpetrators, including through international legal assistance.

Mentzen’s visit to Ukraine

In February, during an election campaign, Mentzen posted a video from Lviv, calling it a “culturally Polish city.” At a monument to Stepan Bandera, he accused local authorities of honoring figures responsible for the deaths of 100,000 Poles. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhij Tychyj condemned Mentzen’s remarks, stating that calling Lviv a “Polish city” is unacceptable and that such actions contradict the spirit of strategic partnership between Ukraine and Poland. Tychyj also advised Polish politicians not to use Ukraine in their election campaigns.
