Another drone incident reported at Danish airport

Danish authorities closed airspace over Aalborg Airport after reports of drones were spotted overnight.

Airspace closure and investigation

In the early hours of Friday (26 September), airspace over Aalborg Airport in Denmark was closed due to reports of drones. Christian Tilsted, chief of police in North Jutland, confirmed the closure began at 23:40 local time. The airspace reopened 35 minutes past midnight. Police are investigating, but it remains unclear if drones were confirmed.

Second consecutive night of disruptions

This marks the second night in a row that drone sightings disrupted operations at Aalborg Airport. On the night of 24–25 September, airspace was closed for several hours, causing multiple flights to be diverted. Normal operations resumed by 4:00 AM. Authorities stated there was no threat to the airport or residents. Similar drone activity was reported near Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup airports, but none were closed.

Government response to recurring incidents

The Danish government is drafting legislation to allow owners of critical infrastructure to shoot down unauthorized drones. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard stated these hybrid attacks aim to spread fear and warned the threat will persist. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen noted professionals are behind the incidents, though no direct military threat to Denmark exists. He predicted more hybrid attacks in the future. Police also reported similar incidents near military sites, with investigations ongoing.
