Poland may see significant snowfall in January 2026, with strong cold waves and snowstorms anticipated, according to long-term weather models.
Long-Term Weather Predictions
According to ECMWF, snowfall in Europe between November and January will be minimal, with the most snow expected in the north. Southern and western Europe will experience unusually warm air masses, but this will change in January with the arrival of polar air. Early 2026 is expected to bring heavier snowfall, particularly in southern and eastern Poland. In February, Poland may face “strong cold waves” and snowstorms, as reported by mkweather.com. The CFS model suggests that light snowfall could occur in Poland as early as late November. “Winter will test infrastructure, agriculture, and energy resilience across the continent… Europe should prepare for an unstable and intense winter season,” stated mkweather.com. Winter weather in Poland will be influenced by the polar vortex and La Niña, though these are long-term forecasts subject to change.
IMGW’s Temperature and Precipitation Outlook
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has released a long-term forecast indicating that October temperatures will be above average, especially in the south and southeast, with significantly less precipitation. More rain is expected in the north and northwest. In November, temperatures will rise slightly in the west, while precipitation levels will remain normal nationwide. December will see both temperatures and precipitation at average levels. January is expected to bring above-average temperatures and precipitation across Poland.
Weekend Weather Forecast
Over the next few days, Poland will experience sunny and relatively warm weather. On Friday, daytime conditions will be pleasant, though southern and southwestern regions may see partial cloud cover and light rain. Nighttime temperatures could drop to -3°C on the ground in eastern Poland, with daytime highs ranging from 14°C in the north to 16°C in central and southern regions, according to IMGW meteorologist Agnieszka Prasek. Saturday will be mostly clear with slight cloud cover, with daytime temperatures ranging from 14°C in the northeast to 18°C in the west. In the foothills, temperatures will be around 12°C. On Sunday, the west will remain fair, while the rest of the country will see increasing cloud cover, with possible brief rain showers in the northeast.
