Ukraine claims to have shot down 92 Russian drones heading toward Poland

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 92 Russian drones were intercepted before reaching Poland on September 10.

Russian drones targeted Poland

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that 92 Russian drones were shot down as they approached Poland on September 10. “92 drones were heading toward Poland. We shot them down,” Zelenskyy said, as reported by Interfax. He also recalled that 19 drones had previously crossed Polish airspace, with four being intercepted.

Russia’s stance on the incident

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that on the night of the airspace violation, Russian forces launched a “massive attack” using precision land, sea, and air weapons, as well as drones, targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Zhytomyr regions, as well as the cities of Vinnytsia and Lviv. The ministry asserted that no targets were planned for destruction on Polish territory. However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as a provocation, stating that the destruction of a house in Wyryki was a direct result of Russia’s actions. “All responsibility for the damage to the house in Wyryki lies with the perpetrators of the drone provocation, namely Russia,” Tusk wrote.

Ukraine intercepts additional drones

Russia continues to attack Ukraine using drones, among other weapons. The Ukrainian Air Force reported on September 27 that 97 out of 115 Russian drones were neutralized. “According to preliminary data, at 9:00 AM, air defense forces shot down/disabled 97 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed and Gerbera drones, as well as other types, across northern, southern, eastern, and central Ukraine,” the military stated.
