Trump teases “something extraordinary” ahead of Netanyahu visit

Donald Trump hinted at a major breakthrough in the Gaza conflict just before meeting Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mysterious post signals optimism

Donald Trump posted a cryptic announcement on Truth Social on Sunday (29 September), expressing optimism about achieving a deal to end the Gaza conflict. The U.S. president stated there was a “real chance for greatness in the Middle East” and claimed “everyone has engaged to do something extraordinary.” He concluded, “For the first time in history. We did it!”

Complex negotiations underway

Trump did not disclose details, but Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News that the U.S. is conducting “very complicated” negotiations with Israeli and Arab leaders, according to Reuters. Vance acknowledged caution but expressed hope for a breakthrough. “I’m more optimistic about where we are now than at any point in the past few months, but let’s be realistic—these things can fall apart at the last minute,” he said. The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu is scheduled for Monday (30 September) at the White House to discuss the deal.

Close to a breakthrough

Earlier last week, Trump stated he was near finalizing an agreement to end the Gaza conflict and secure the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 2023. During talks with Arab leaders, he reportedly presented a 21-point plan for ending the war. Reuters revealed Trump’s plan includes hostage releases, a halt to Israeli attacks on Qatar, and Israel-Palestinian dialogue for “peaceful coexistence.” Vance told Fox News the war-ending plan has three key components: hostage releases, eliminating Hamas threats to Israel, and increasing humanitarian aid in Gaza. “I think we’re close to achieving all three elements,” he said.
