Ukrainian drones attacked a power plant and two energy stations in Belgorod, Russia, on Sunday, disrupting water and electricity supplies.

Attack on Russian power infrastructure

On Sunday (29 September), Ukrainian drones targeted several locations in Belgorod, a city in European Russia. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed the attack, which hit an electricity and heating plant, as well as two power stations. “The city of Belgorod has been repeatedly shelled by Ukrainian armed forces. We are currently determining if there are casualties and the extent of the damage,” Gladkov stated.

Disruptions in water and electricity supply

Gladkov also reported severe disruptions in water and electricity supply across the city. Independent Russian outlet Meduza noted that some streets were without power, traffic lights were not functioning, and many people were trapped in elevators. The governor warned residents that due to power outages, the missile attack warning system may malfunction. He urged people to stay indoors. The issues also affected the towns of Stary Oskol and Shebekino. “We are currently addressing the consequences and taking all possible measures to connect everything to backup generators to meet the needs of the population and our businesses,” Gladkov said.

Massive Russian attack on Ukraine

In the night between Saturday and Sunday (27/28 September), Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported at least four fatalities and 70 injuries. Missiles and drones struck 11 regions, damaging over 100 civilian objects. Among the victims were a 12-year-old girl, a patient, and a nurse from a cardiology institute in Kyiv. The Polish embassy in Kyiv was also damaged. Spokesperson Paweł Wroński informed TVP Info that a missile pierced the embassy’s roof but did not explode. Despite the challenging conditions, Polish diplomats remain safe. Wroński added that Russia used hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against Ukraine. The missile that hit the Polish embassy penetrated the roof and landed in the kitchen.
