Polish police detained Zbigniew Ziobro at Warsaw airport to compel his appearance before a parliamentary committee.
Ninth attempt to question Ziobro
On Monday, September 29, after 10:30 AM, police waited for Zbigniew Ziobro at Warsaw airport before his flight. The politician was detained and served with a court order to appear. He argued that the Constitutional Tribunal ruled his detention illegal, but the officer insisted on enforcing the court’s decision. He was also asked not to use his phone, claiming he had notes there.
Police at Ziobro’s home
Ziobro is to be forcibly brought to a hearing of the Pegasus affair investigative commission. He was in Brussels on Monday but flew back to Warsaw the same day. This is the ninth attempt to question the former justice minister. The hearing was scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM but was postponed until 12:00 PM. Around 6:00 AM, police appeared at Ziobro’s home in Jeruzal (Łódź province). Officers rang the intercom at the gate, but no one answered.
Background of the case
Previous attempts to question Ziobro failed, as he either presented medical excuses or challenged the commission’s legitimacy. In one case, police brought him to the Sejm building, but the commission had already adjourned. Ziobro is a key witness in the Pegasus affair, having overseen the Justice Ministry, which controlled the Justice Fund. From this fund, 25 million zloty was transferred to the CBA for purchasing the Pegasus spyware. According to the ruling coalition, the system was used by the PiS government to surveil the opposition.
