A 37-year-old man in Wielkopolskie is accused of endangering flight safety by directing a laser beam at a cockpit.
Incidents reported to police
On September 26, pilots training at Kąkolewo Airport reported a strong laser beam directed at their cockpit. The police patrol could not identify the source despite prolonged observation, according to the County Police Command in Nowy Tomyśl.
The next day, the incident repeated, and pilots pinpointed the approximate area. Officers spotted a green laser beam coming from a property, leading to the arrest of a 37-year-old man.
Legal consequences and safety risks
The man faces charges of intentionally endangering flight safety, which could result in up to one year in prison.
Years ago, the Civil Aviation Authority launched a campaign, “Laser is not a toy,” warning that laser beams can blind pilots. The agency emphasized that lasers can disrupt critical flight operations, especially during takeoff and landing, posing risks to passengers and crew.
